Covid-19 strikes the earth and everything including movie theatres gets closed for some unknown time resulting in delaying some of the big budget Hollywood movies and magic from entertainment chest. Movie studios working hard to shift large portions of their film release dates in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of the top Hollywood upcoming movies also got impacted by this pandemic and got delayed.
Many of the small budget films, their studios and producers have decided and started to release their films on digital media but some of the big budget movies and studios like Marvel, DC, Warner Bros, The Fast and Furious franchise to name a few, have decided to reschedule their movies for release in theatres.
Here are some of the big budget upcoming Hollywood movies from some of the big studios which got delayed due to Covid-19.
Christopher Nolan’s next big budget movie ‘Tenet’, which -by trailer seems to be really mind bending again- is also the part of this decision. The producers had already delayed the release date once but looking at the current scenario they had to change the release date twice.
According to the previous schedule Tenet was going to strike in theatres on July 17th, 2020. Because of the social distancing criteria and Covid-19 situation it was rescheduled to release on 31st July 2020. But again the studio needed to reschedule the release date of Tenet and delay it indefinitely to August 12, 2020.
Marvel Cinematic Universe:
Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next phase of the superhero movies was just about to start when the Covid-19 pandemic started.
‘Black Widow’ movie’s trailer was released earlier and it was all set to release in theatres on May 11, 2020 which they had to reschedule on November 6, 2020.
The Eternals was the next movie after Black Widow in MCU which was set to release but had to reschedule from November 6, 2020 to February 12, 2021.
Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness
The another phase 4 movie of MCU was Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness which was planned to release on November 19, 2021 and had to change the date to May 27, 2022.
Thor: Love and Thunder has also changed the release dates from November 5, 2021 to February 11, 2022.
Before the Avengers: Endgame, the world’s biggest movie Avatar’s next instalments were planned to hit the theatres every December. There are going to be 4 movies of Avatar the second of which was planned on 17th December 2021 and got delayed one year to 16th December 2020.
The Fast and The Furious:
The Fast and The Furious franchise was ready to thrill the audience as they had done with all other movies of the series yet and also with the trailer of F9. The next movie from the franchise was F9 whose trailer was released and loved worldwide with new character played by ‘John Cena’ , was ready to release in theatres on 22nd May 2020. But audience have to wait till next year now as the new release date of the movie is April 2, 2021.
Unlike Marvel cinematic universe, DC has some fewer movies in mind to release this and next year. One of which is being spice to the gossip and excitement of the fans.
Wonder Woman 1984:
Speaking of the big budget movies and studios, DC universe’s Wonder Woman’s second part Wonder Woman 1984 was all set to release on June 5, 2020 which had to move twice in rescheduling table. The date of release of Wonder Woman 1984 changed from June 5, 2020 to August 14, 2020 first and then finally to October 2, 2020.
These are the some of the big budget movies from some of the big studios and most awaited by the audiences. Yet there are many more to name who got impacts on their release dates because of Covid-19.
